Your Hair and You – Eat Right for Beautiful Hair!

Get beautiful hair by eating the right things!

Beautiful and health hair is something most people crave for. Having beautiful hair means that you are healthy inside and so, it is definitely something to strive for. Here are the things you should be incorporating into your diet to make sure that you have beautiful hair.

Protein: Your hair is made up of 98% protein and therefore, including lots of protein in your diet is extremely important. Too much fat in your diet will lead to hair loss and that is the reason why the protein in your food should come mostly from low-fat fish, soy and lean meats. However, make sure that you don’t eat too much of protein as that could lead to a condition of calcium deficiency. If you happen to be vegan, you should ensure that you are getting your daily protein requirement from non-animal sources.

Vitamins: Vitamins are vital for the normal functioning of the body and they are a necessity for great hair as well. Having a highly stressful lifestyle or deficiency of vitamins can lead to hair loss. Eating 5 or more portions of fruits and vegetables everyday will ensure that you are getting your fill of Vitamin A so make sure you eat them. Butter, milk, egg yolks and liver are some other wonderful sources of Vitamin A. Vitamin B is essential because it leads to the proper processing of other nutrients the body receives. Vitamin C is something you can get in abundance from citrus fruits. Make sure you are eating your greens and you can be sure that you are getting enough Vitamin E. A balanced diet full of healthy foods is your best bet to get all the vitamins you need for great hair!

Iron: Deficiency of iron in your diet can cause hair loss apart from the various other illnesses that you can expect. If you suffer from iron deficiency, make sure that you eat lots of spinach, eggs and other healthy foods to treat the condition.

Essential fatty acids: These are extremely essential if you want to treat hair loss. Essential fatty acids are available in most types of oily fish. Eat a lot of tuna, salmon and halibut. If you are vegetarian, use olive oil in your meals to get your fill of essential fatty acids.

Minerals: Whether it is magnesium, potassium, manganese, sulphur, zinc or silica, minerals are of utmost importance if your goal is to strengthen your hair. Poultry products are excellent for these so eat your portions of eggs, chicken and dairy items on most days. For zinc, you can eat pumpkin seeds.

Iodine: If you are suffering from unexplained hair loss, it may be due to a deficiency of iodine in the body. Hypothyroidism is a condition that causes a deficiency of iodine in the body which can very well be the root cause of hair loss. You can increase the iodine in your diet and thereby get beautiful and healthy hair by including foods such as garlic, seaweed, watercress, eggs, molasses, potatoes and seafood.

Choosing hair products with care

Hair product advertisements really pull out all marketing stops by promoting products in a way that easily attracts the consumers’ eyes. But before you go ahead and choose your hair products, make sure you do your research well. The best hair products have natural or nature-based ingredients in them and choosing them will ensure that your hair is in great condition at all times. So instead of going for hair products judging by the advertisements, making sure that you take out time to choose well because that will yield better results.

  10. Hi,

I work for a magazine on medical technology and we would be interested in covering this radical new technology. However before we go ahead with an article, I have a few questions that I hope that you would willing to answer.

1)Ostensibly QR 678 happens to create new hair follicles although you are yet to expound upon how exactly does this process work. What possible risks does it pose to a patient and how safe is the process?

    2) Owing to the fact that proteins are injected into the scalp to galvanize the latent hair producing stem cells is there a potential risk for cancer. How exactly does 1r-678 mitigate or circumvent this potential threat altogether?

3)You claim to have conducted a 750 subject, double-blind study; no data or papers were published nor were any objective patient photographs submitted, Why?

4)Do you plan to undergo FDA trials in the U.S for this product?

    thank you for your time.

  11. hey doctor,
    I have some queries:
    1. Do your molecule QR 678 contains Propecia or Mixodinil.
    2. Does the treatment works in case of thinning hair.
    3. Also which of the hair this molecule helps to regrow. I mean when it does not help in regrowth on the bald area then which area?
    4. The cream which is to be used after treatment, do we have to use it in daytime as i have very thin hair………any cream will make me scalp completely visible?

  13. Dr. Shome, I am 23 yrs old and suffering from male pattern baldness (androgenic alopecia). My father, grandfather and uncles are also bald. So I guess, genetic factor is there within me. Do you think QR 678 will be effective for me ? I have come to know from a dermatologist that baldness with genetic factors have no cure other than transplant. Please suggest.

  14. sir,at first i want to congratulate you to find out a much needed solution of lingering problem QR 678. But ,before completely retying on it,i want to ask you something. Is your product safe? can it create a life long dependence ,as i is a drug? and at last ,i want to know when will you open a clinic at kolkata?as we need your helping hnd, please answer me as early as possible.

  15. Hello Dr. Debraj,

As you mentioned above answering one of the question saying, “If the scalp is completely bald, this therapy will not work” What does its mean?

I went to Dr. Batra’s Clinic and as per doctor available there, they said, my baldness is of 7th stage which can’t be cured by homeopathy treatment.
Do you think QR 678 therapy can work for me. Whats your suggestion?

    Thanks,
    Vineet.

  16. Hi Dr Debraj,

Can I have this injection in Mumbai ? Please do let me know. I am interested in ur treatment.and looking foward to get a reply asap.

    Regards
    Sameer

  17. Hello Dr.

I have this baldness problem for the past 5-6 years and now my hair loss stage is Norwood5. Do you think that QR678 would be helpful in my case?
Have just read about your QR678 solution in Times of India today and found it very encouraging but I still have concerns like: –

    1. Is it only for people who have started experiencing hair loss and want to arrest the hair fall? Can it be used for people who are already bald but are very young in age say below 30?
    2. The report says that you have already tested it on around 700 human patients and the results are very positive. Does any of these patients included any bald person? If yes, then can you please classify and provide the statistics for the effect of the treatment on each of the Norwood Stages?
    3. Have there been any side effects in any of these patients?
    4. How fast the results would be visible?
    5. In my case I have been using Minoxidil and attribute the sudden freefall to the stoppage of this lotion. I am completely bald but there are a few strands left on the crown and central area

I stay in Delhi and would like to travel to Hyderabad to get rid of the hair piece that I am wearing for past 2 years. Do you by any chance visit the Apollo Hospitals in Delhi?

    Regards
    Rahul Gupta

  18. Hi Dr. Debraj,

Could you please explain about side effects if any regarding your new invention QR 678. Also, what are the factors when these new treatments might not work. If someone is not living in India, do you have any process in place to make regular sessions available for them.

Appreciate your time to answer these questions.

    Thanks,
    Viral

  19. dr. your site doesn’t contain much about ur latest invention: molecule QR 678 injection.have you already started treating baldness with this injection? could u plz explain in detail about its cost, effectiveness, side effects etc.?

    • Hi Suvas,

      Thank you for your query.

For Patients suffering from hair loss, we perform mesotherapy with the QR678 molecule which are patented growth factors, which is administered by tiny virtually painless injections in the scalp. It requires ~ 8 sessions spaced 2-3 weeks apart.Generally 1 ml of solution is injected per session, each session takes 15 minutes, no hospitalization required, and costs Rs. 5000 per ml of injection per session.

The scalp has to be evaluated to find out if this treatment will work for you.It is very difficult to regain the hair that you have lost over time, and some patients just do not respond to traditional available therapies, and this treatment helps regain some percentage of that hair.Lotion applications are prescribed to you to which you have to use 2-3 times a week for maintainance, to prevent the ill-effect of hormones on the hair, after your sessions are over.

If the scalp is completely bald, this therapy will not work. Results generally are 50-60% regrowth or more depending on the extent of the problem. Improvement starts after 4 sessions.

I also recommend in severe hair loss that folks undergo the QR 678 to make the transplantable hair thicker. After all, th transplaned hair also comes from your own scalp, just from a different area, so thicker hair gives us more hair to transplant.

We have no other branch. However, if you can visit us for a consultation, to see your problem and if this treatment will work for you, it may be possible to give you the medicine, and a recording of the technique of giving the injections, which you can take from a local dermatologist / physician in your area.

You can call Ms. Sheetal – 9573617914 for an appointment.

  20. Hi Dr. Shome. I had a surgery done by you, if you can recall. Have started loosing hair since then. Changed shampoos to something milder and have included lots of leafy veggies to my regular diet of milk and fruits. Anything else I could do? I am almost a vegan btw. Thanks in advance for your help.

    • Hey Yashita,
The surgery per se was too minor to really impact hair or its fall. Why dont you swing by this Saturday and we can look it up?

      Hope you have been well.

      Best,
      Debraj.

  21. Biotin is effective for healthy hair because the primary structural component of hair is keratin. Biotin is needed for the metabolism of amino acids which are essential for the production of keratin.

  22. Hey Dr Shome, thanks a million for this blog. I am losing so much hair daily it’s not funny. However, I do make it a point to include all of these foods that you mention, but nothing seems to work. Wonder what the problem is…

    • Hi Vrushali, Thank you for writing in! What might be reassuring is that you are not alone. 🙂 Most men and many women share your angst. There are many reasons for loss of hair, internal milieu and external environment both being important. Losing up to 50 hair a day or so is normal and you do not need to worry. But if you are losing more than that and there is no extra stress currently, you are eating and sleeping well, you are not on any medications, you are not hormonally imbalanced (for a woman, that could mean, your periods are normal) and if you do not have any local scalp infections, then you should not be waiting any longer. See a good dermatologist immediately. We would be happy to help in any way possible. You could also seek more information on hair as a whole at http://www.theestheticclinic.com

Hair loss might soon be a thing of the past. My research group has come out with a molecule which in preliminary studies has revolutionized hair growth. 80% hair growth in about 6 months for more than 90% people who tried this injection therapy. Results in some cases were even better than hair restoration surgery! It is SO exciting that we have decided to patent this technology and actually come up with our own products soon. We call this molecule QR 678! 🙂

More information on this revolution available on:

  23. Yeah, true! Health and beauty are inextricably linked. Looking beautiful, feeling beautiful and being beautiful — all possible by nourishing the body, mind and soul. A strong body, healthy self-esteem, smart eating, and INFORMED CHOICES ON HAIR and SKIN CARE (for which your blogs seem to be the richest source ;), they all contribute to the beauty index of any normal individual.
I love your hair blog. Much needed. Will wait in anticipation for your next blog. 🙂

  24. Hey Deb Thanks so much for this one man… but how do I balance my diet… my hair is toh going?? but I have no clue how to balance out all these proteins and vitamins in my diet 😦

    • Hi Sujata, Thank you for writing in! As I said before, what might be reassuring is that you are not alone. 🙂 Most men and many women share your angst. There are many reasons for loss of hair, internal milieu and external environment both being important. Losing up to 50 hair a day or so is normal and you do not need to worry. Sometimes, hair loss is something which happens only for a while and then rectifies itself! Just have more proteins, less fat, exercise regularly, try and be calmer and take some vitamin supplements. That should help and if that does not, see a good dermatologist immediately. We would be happy to help in any way possible. You could also seek more information on hair as a whole at http://www.theestheticclinic.com

Again, Like I wrote earlier, hair loss might soon be a thing of the past. Very, very excited! 🙂 My research group has come out with a molecule which in preliminary studies has revolutionized hair growth. 80% hair growth in about 6 months for more than 90% people who tried this injection therapy.
